AI visibility tracking

AI visibility tracking that tells you what to fix

Every month we ask ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews the questions your buyers ask, record every answer, and show you where you are named, who is named instead, and the specific fixes that move the number.

What gets tracked each month

AI search visibility is not one number in one tool. It is whether four different engines, each with its own sources and habits, put your name in front of a buyer who asked a real question.

Each month we run the same 20 questions against every engine. The questions are generated for your brand from your category, keywords and competitors, and spread across five intents: discovery (“best X for Y”), comparison (“X vs Y”), constraints (budget, location, size), integration (“works with Shopify”) and pricing. For a physiotherapy clinic that might look like this:

  • “Best physio in Brisbane for running injuries?”
  • “Is sports physio or a chiropractor better for lower back pain?”
  • “Physio near Fortitude Valley with Saturday appointments”
  • “Which physio clinics in Brisbane bulk bill or take private health?”

An LLM judge reads every answer and records four things for your brand: whether you were mentioned, your position in the answer, the sentiment of what was said, and the recommendation strength (primary pick, alternative, passing mention, or absent). It does the same for every competitor it finds, and it keeps the list of pages each engine cited.

How the AI visibility score works

Four things decide whether AI sends customers your way. The score weights them by how much they matter, then scales the result from 0 to 100.

40%Mention rate
30%Position
20%Sentiment
10%Engine coverage

Mention rate. How often you are named when someone asks one of your 20 questions.

Position. Whether you are the first recommendation or an afterthought at the end of a list.

Sentiment. How positively the answer describes you, and whether it adds caveats.

Engine coverage. How consistently you show up across all four engines, not just one.

A score only helps if it moves for the right reasons. Because the question set stays fixed from month to month, a jump from 34 to 48 means the engines changed what they say about you, not that we asked easier questions. The full answers sit behind every number, so you can check the reasoning yourself. For the one-off version of this report, see the AI visibility audit.

All four engines, every month

Buyers do not stick to one assistant. Neither do we. Every plan includes every engine, with no per-model add-ons.

What is included, and what often costs extra

Most LLM visibility tracking tools start with one or two models and charge for the rest. That matters, because the engines disagree: a brand can be ChatGPT's first pick and missing from Claude, which answers from what it learned in training rather than a live search. If you only track one engine you only see one version of your reputation.

Dashboards are useful, but the reason to track AI visibility is to change it. Every report ends with a ranked list of fixes, from schema errors you can correct this week to the review sites and roundups worth pitching over the next quarter. If you are new to the discipline, our guide to generative engine optimization explains why those fixes work.

How a month of tracking works

  1. We build your question set

From your site, category, keywords and competitors we generate 20 buyer-intent questions across discovery, comparison, constraint, integration and pricing intents.
  2. We ask all four engines

Each question goes to ChatGPT with web search, Claude and Perplexity, and we check Google AI Overviews for the matching searches. Every answer is stored in full.
  3. The judge scores every answer

An LLM judge records mention, position, sentiment and recommendation strength for you and every competitor, plus the sources each engine cited.
  4. You get the report and the fix list

Your first report lands within 48 hours: score, competitor share, cited sources and a prioritised action plan.
  5. We re-test next month

Same questions, same engines, so you can see which fixes moved the score and which competitors gained ground.

What you can do with it

  • Show leadership one number for AI search visibility, with the answers behind it.
  • Find the questions where a competitor is named and you are not, then build the page or earn the mention that fixes it.
  • Build a PR list from the sources engines actually cite, instead of guessing which publications matter.
  • Check whether Google AI Overviews mention you for the searches that already bring you traffic.

When AI visibility tracking is worth it

If your buyers ask an assistant before they buy, you are already being ranked somewhere you cannot see. Tracking is most useful when:

  • A competitor keeps turning up in AI answers and you want to know which questions they own.
  • You run a local business or an online store and want the extra local or product signal checks on top of the core score.
  • You are already working on answer engine optimization and need a monthly measure of whether it is working.

It is less useful if you cannot act on the fixes: tracking without changes just records the status quo more precisely.

Frequently asked questions

What is AI visibility tracking?

AI visibility tracking measures how often AI assistants name your business when people ask questions you should win. Citedify asks ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews 20 buyer-intent questions each month, records every answer and turns them into a 0–100 score, competitor share, cited sources and a fix list.

How is AI visibility tracking different from rank tracking?

Rank tracking checks where a URL sits in a list of blue links. AI answers usually name two to five businesses in a paragraph, so the useful questions are whether you are named at all, where in the answer, how you are described and who is named instead. That is what the score and competitor share measure.

Which AI engines are included?

All four in every plan: ChatGPT with web search, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. Some tools sell extra engines as paid add-ons; we do not.

How often is my brand re-tested?

Your first report arrives within 48 hours. After that the same question set is re-run every month, so changes in your score reflect changes in the answers rather than changes in the questions.

Can I choose the questions that get tracked?

We generate 20 questions from your brand, category, keywords and competitors, spread across discovery, comparison, constraint, integration and pricing intents. You get the full list in every report and can re-run any of them yourself.

How much does it cost?

Citedify is a monthly subscription that covers all four engines. Pricing is not published on the site yet; request an audit through the form on this page and we will share current plan details.
